Will your fave be at the Met Costume Institute Benefit—easily one of the most exhilarating fashion events of the year—on Monday at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
This year’s theme is China: Through the Looking Glass, and Jennifer Lawrence is a co-chair along with Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour, Wendi Murdoch, Gong Li and Marissa Mayer.
Last year, the single evening generated almost $12 million, was a trending topic on Twitter that attracted over 25 million page views on vogue.com the following day. This year, it will be part of a documentary.
Unfortunately, don’t expect to get any sneak-peeks inside the Met Gala from your favorite celebrities this year. The Metropolitan Museum of Art is cracking down on social media and phone usage at this year’s ball, Page Six Reports. Not only have selfies been banned from the fashion event (Sorry, Kim), celebs will also not be permitted to document inside the event on social media. All guests have reportedly received notices stating, “The use of phones for photography and social media will not be permitted inside the gala.” This means all of the model and star-studded selfies you were able to live vicariously through on Twitter and Instagram last year are officially a thing of the past.
Celebrities slated to appear include: Rihanna, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, Katy Perry and now Beyonce. As you may recall, at last year’s Met, the infamous elevator-gate between Jay Z and Solange Knowles occurred.
We hear hear Rihanna and Katy Perry will be throwing their own post-Met Gala shindigs while Lady Gaga rumored to be performing at the Boom Boom Room.
